Fair at Sorochyntsi

The Russian Speakers Society is proud to present the concert production of Mussorgsky’s opera “Fair at Sorochyntsi”. This two-act comic opera will be performed in Austin for the first time, featuring Nikita Storojev, Sergey Maystruk (Moscow), Mikhail Smigelski, Evgeny Kozyrenko, Heather Lewis, Pilar Gomez Govea, Derek Hale, and Sam Shipps as soloists. Tatiana Storozheva will be at the piano and students of Nikita Storojev’s voice studio will be the chorus.
The libretto of “Fair at Sorochyntsi” is based on Nikolai Gogol’s short story of the same name. The opera was unfinished and unperformed at Mussorgsky’s death in 1881. This opera will be performed in the Russian language, but an English printed translation will be available at the concert.
